Tips For Extending T-Mobile G1 Battery Life
24.10.08 # 23:44 # G1 News # 3 CommentsLike most hot gadgets these days, we still haven’t progressed as a society to a point where we have available a battery that will last for more than a few hours. This mystifies me, and is quite upsetting when you think about it.
Seriously, so I can jump on the internet from my G1 smartphone, buy stuff off of ebay, listen to music, GPS, and all the other wicked cool features, but I can’t do it for more than a few hour because my batter is completely sucked dry. Lame. Does the battery industry have some major lobbying going on somewhere to keep down battery cell technology? Maybe we’ll look into that…
In the mean time, if you’re looking for a way to conserve battery power on your T-Mobile G1 phone, here are a few tips that you can use to gain up to a few extra hours on your battery. This could come in handy, especially if you don’t have a charger next to you at all times.
Tips To Extending Your G1 Battery (thanks to my friends at G1 Forum):
1. Lower your screen brightness to the lowest possible setting. The screen should still be plenty bright, and it will make a big difference in batter life.
2. Leave the GPS Satellite setting off when not using it (which is most of the time).
3. Change the backlight to “less than 2 minutes”.
4. Try using vibrate if you can, as it’s been reported that it uses less battery power than a ringtone.
5. Turn off Wi-Fi when you don’t need it.
6. Turn off Blue Tooth when you don’t need it.
7. Get a car charger, cause yeah, you’ll need it!
8. 3g off, and use Edge.
9. Turn off all auto-sync for emails, contacts, etc…
10. Pick up a spare battery!
That’s all for now, if you have any additional tips or clarification, by all means please let us know! The G1 battery issue seems to be one of the most widespread complaints so far, and if we all help each other out, maybe we can come up with a solution.
Note: Here is more extensive reading about the battery and G1 user experiences so far.
