Google G1 Phone A Hit
29.10.08 # 10:36 # G1 Reviews # One Comment
The first Android phone to hit the market is the “G1″ by Google. It will make it’s debut on the T-Mobile network. This is certainly a welcome boon for T-Mo as they have had less than lackluster mobile phone choices. This move should help them gain a bit more of the mobile market share. The initial “Android” phone released by Google will be dubbed the “G1″.
Android
“Android” is Google’s attempt at a mobile OS. The “Android” platform will be open source meaning anybody with a SDK (Software Development Kit) will be able to develop software for the OS. That is definitely something to look forward to. The platform will come with mobile ads to ensure Google’s dominance in the ever growing advertising market. They have already dominated the web with Google search. So now they want to take over the mobile phone advertising market as well. This should take them one step closer to world domination. All joking aside, Android will put Google in the mobile OS wars with WinMobile, Symbian, Apple, & even Blackberry’s own OS. These mobile OS wars are good for the consumer because it will mean that as they (Mobile Operating Systems) strive to dominate the market, we will start seeing better products at lower prices.
Steve Jobs predicts the future
When Steve Jobs & Bill Gates had been interviewed together (a milestone in the tech world), Jobs was asked what he thought would be the next big thing in computing. He responded that he didn’t know but had a feeling that “convergence” devices would soon become very popular. This “G1″ device is what Steve Jobs was talking about (besides the Iphone of course) when he mentioned that “convergence” devices will soon take over the mainstream computer buying public.
G1 is here!
The phone made it’s way into T-Mo shops on October 22nd. It’s competitively priced at $179. Google is optimistic that they will eventually surpass their PC ad revenue which is estimated to be already a multi-billion dollar a year cash cow. The G1 debuts in three different flavors: jet black, vanilla white, & chocolate brown. It comes pre-bundled with Google Maps, Gmail, and everyone’s favorite video addiction: YouTube.
The G1 also comes jam-packed with enough features to satisfy even the pickiest consumers (one touch Google search anyone?). The G1 doesn’t have the aesthetic appeal of say an Iphone (yet) but give it time and it’s beauty will catch up with it’s brains (functionality). This is a positive first step in Google’s eventual dominance of the mobile ad market. The G1 also give T-Mo more relevance in the Mobile Network wars. The G1 is a win-win for everyone involved, but only time will tell if it lives up to expectations and stays relevant in a highly competitive and demanding industry.
