If I had been able to unlock the phone when I got it, it would have actually been of some use in London, which is where I took off for the same day I bought it. T-mobile charges $15/megabyte for roaming data, which is prohibitive. But you can get unlimited data in the UK for a pound or two a day. That’s aside from the fact that T-mobile signed me up for a flexpay account without telling me that it was only good in North America.
So yes I would like the free code, and may end up buying a code.

T-Mobile will give you an unlock code free. After you’ve had the phone 3-4 weeks, call customer service, tell them you are going out of the country and need to have your phone unlocked. If you’re new to T-Mobile, you might need to cajole them a bit, but this is no big deal for long-time TMO customers. If you’re really in a hurry, you might try the service mentioned above, but why spend the money if you don’t have to?
just call your service provider, after 3 months with tmobile they will unlock any phone if you tell them you travel abroad

i unlocked my G1 free of charge by calling Tmobile and telling them that i will be traveling overseas for few months.
i gave them the EMEI number and they sent me the unlock code via email in about 12hours.

Why would I pay for an unlock code when its free. Thats right folks free..All you have to do is call up Tmobile and tell them your flying over seas and you need to unlock your phone to use a simcard from Europe while your there. They will gladly do this for you. So Why pay when its free you guys..

You can just call T-Mobile and the will give you the unlock code for free it is their policy to do so on all phones. I did it for a T-Mobile blackberry they sent the code within 24 hours to my e-mail with instructions how to do it and it is now being used on At&t. DO not get suckered into paying for an unlock code, that is bull that someone would charge to do that Please do not support companies that charge for those sort of things, same for the iphone never pay for unlocking software it is available for free. Oh and there was an article that said iPhones dont have street view, thats funny because the other day I used street view on my T-Mobile iphone, it is also available for the At&t ones.
you can unlock it free if you call tmobile and have had an account with them for 90 days.

i will definitly will be intrested cause i just got one and i go out of the country alot so it would be nice to just the sim instead of taking one of my other unlocked phones
got my and gf’s g1 unlocked online from unlockg1mobile.com it was easy and quick my first time to try unlocking and worked like a charm. paid $19 for the code.

I wouldn’t mind paying a little if I fully understood the value in it. Maybe this sight will reward somebody if they would be willing to reply with a good explanation for a brand new owner such as myself and others who have already asked. I do travel over in europe for my business and if this let’s me use this sweet phone over there, id be a happy camper.

I had my g1 since january 08 and this is the best thing that ever happened to me, its still a lot of things I don’t know how to do, there so many apps to download so winning the codes will be appreciated I spent $4oo for the phone and it was worth every dollar. If you don’t have a g1 go get it its the best thing out.
to answer kafluke… unlocking your phone allows you more freedoms with your service provider. if your phone says tmobile or att on the front, odds are you can only use it under that company. unlocking your phone fixes this, and brings me to my next point.
being overseas lets you take full advantage of this since tmobile probably wont work there. at all kinds of stores, especially convenient stores, you can buy sim cards with pre-paid minutes on them. then just pop the card in your phone and follow the dialing instructions that came with it. when you run out of minutes, you can just buy a “top-up” card to add more minutes to the sim you already have.
in some countries ive noticed its way cheaper to buy a phone card and use the payphone but i think most people would just prefer to use their own phone. oh, and youll also have your own phone number there!!

What really concerns me is the fact this site is supposed to be dedicated to the G1 and its users, what’s behind this full campaign for a site that’s obviously ripping folks off? Anyone with half a brain knows you can get your own unlock code. I really like the intentions of this site but the writings on the wall. One free giveaway…..WOW.

Well the reason why I want my G1 unlocked is because I travel a lot right now imtrying to put a TELCEL SIM card but. It is not workin and. The people here are trying to charge me $500 because this G1 on wich I’m typing right now well they don’t have it yet or know anything about it. Well hope to here from you guys soon thank you a lot.
