My Time With A Brand New T-Mobile G1

Having bought my G1 today, I decided to take it home and savor the experience of opening it. First up, the box comes with 2 flyers (G1 accessories, and some tips on how to use/make the most out of the G1).
The phone itself is extremely light, which makes it great to carry in your pocket or holding whilst using, so you wont strain your wrist with long calls. I haven’t had a chance to download anything from the market but rather toyed around with the phone itself to get adapted to it.
The first thing that happens once you insert a charged battery into the G1 is that it gives you the notification to insert your sim card. To insert you sim card, you’ll need to take out your memory card, then insert it gently into the brackets.
The background light is very bright an helps contrast text in a dark environment. You could easily use it when trying to open your door, instead of fumbling with the lock.
There aren’t any help/tip notifications on any of the G1′s screens which can make life difficult for the electronically challenged folks, but it cannot be stressed enough that the G1 is a great phone for a beginner and adept alike.
Videos and photos cannot be save on to the G1′s memory, but require a memory card. In short, if there is no
memory card in the G1, then it is useless as a result. 1GB memory card in the G1 is great for a few songs and everyday usage, but I would use anything past 8gb for movie and album playback in the G1.
The folder structure can be a bit awkward but is easily adapted to after some time.
Sometimes the G1 can freeze if too many commands are run, so you really need to be careful with that usage. Treat it just like a computer, i.e if you’re watching a movie, burning a CD, playing a game it will crash.
Same thing with the G1.
Pattern lock is a great concept which easily does away with all the unfortunate problems that a normal phone lock has. I highly recommend pattern lock to be set to display since it can be confusing if you can’t remember/drunk etc.
Email functions are easy enough with no noticeable lag. This is great in a business environment. GMailsupport are skilled in problems with the G1, so if any troubles do occur, you wont be wading in shark infested waters for too long
Overall, everything works perfect for myself and it will make a great investment in your social and business life.
