Battery Replacement for G1 Users
15.01.09 # 13:29 # G1 Updates # 21 CommentsAround the Christmas season, T-Mobile‘s support department announced that G1 users would be receiving a battery replacement for their phones. The reason behind this replacement is from various G1 customers reporting short battery during long-term use of the android phone.
With this in mind, T-Mobile will be issuing customers a new battery with 2400mAh which will replace the current G1 battery of 1150mAh. The new battery’s 2400mAh (milliamp hours) is over double the original battery’s life, and does not require a replacement back cover.
G1 customers should have already received a notification by snail mail and/or e-mail with additional information on acquiring the new batter replacement. Those who have not should contact their T-Mobile representative/location regarding the new battery for their phone.
If anyone has received their new battery, please feel free to leave feedback here with your experience and how it has improved the battery life of your G1.

Hope those help
I called tmobile today I was on hold for ever and transfered 6 times before I finally got the answer of ” nothing has been confirmed htc did it for the das and the shadow”. It seemed to me that tmobile is either in the dark or keeping it under wraps, I guess we will see
I.cld tmob they said they don’t know nething about g1 battery replacement. Only 4 shadow I actually got p’d off at the lady so will sm1 email me and let me know. Mattmacri@yahoo.com cuz this battery lasts 4 borhing while on web or phone I basically leave it plugged in
This is not true because I just called t-mobile and they said that they haven’t heard anything about the battery raplacement! And. They also ssaid that this is most likely not going to happen
I got my battery today!!! I am so happy!!! It came from HTC.
I got my battery today!!! I am so happy, It came from HTC.
I just talked to HTC. They did not offer much support, I was referred to the T-Mobile Tech support team at 877-816-8601 and the lady that I asked said that there is no 2400mAh battery available as of yet. She is shipping me out a free under warranty battery (Same 1800mAh) to see if that solves the issue. I’m pretty sure I will have to charge it halfway through the day again.
Just talkrd to T-Mobile customer support and they said that the new batteries are being shipped by mail and that everybody should have them by Feb 15th. We shall see.
I just spoke with all 3 of T-Mobile’s and HTC’s customer support/technical support/accessories lines and they ALL had the same thing to say….
There is NO “trade up/trade in” program being offered of batteries for a better one by either T-Mobile or HTC. There is only a “replacement” program for dead or malfunctioning batteries through either T-Mobile under an insurance claim or through HTC through a manufacturer workmanship claim.
DON’T, I repeat, DON’T buy an “extended life/higher mah battery” because it WILL burn out your G1! The G1 is not designed to handle the higher mah batteries. There is an investigation being conducted by BOTH T-Mobile and HTC in regards to who/what comapny is mailing G1 customers these “extended life/higher mah batteries” alleging on behalf of T-Mobile or HTC.
Ok every1, that’s all I had to say. I know it may seem common knowledge, but like most others, I am a HEAVY user who needs the longest battery life I can get and I just wanted to be sure for myself before spending the money or a new battery or getting a random battery in the mail from “unknown” company saying it will be better for me.
Just to confirm Justincredible’s post. Spoke with Tmobile and they DO NOT HAVE ANY BATTERY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM. So this rumor is definitely bogus. Was transferred to 3 different people. Also informed them where I read it, they checked it and denied this speculation as being true.
I heard there was an upgraded battery coming from the TMobile store. It was not going to be free! They do not know when it will be available! This was about four weeks ago! They have not heard anything more since. They said TMobile tends to just ship these things without confirmation so if there is a better battery it would most likely just show up at the stores! Frankly they seemed a bit ignorant of what is going on! So I doubt there is a new battery hitting any time soon!
That being said, I found the “eSettings” app in Market to give me a little better battery life. However, we are never going to be able to use these phones fully and get a lot of battery life! Turn down your screen brightness! I did that and it extended my battery life quite a bit! I also bought a small charger for $30.00 bucks that works wonders when I am in a pinch for some more battery life! Check it out at your TM store!

TO: Justincredible and anyone else that cares…
Putting a higher mah battery in your phone is not going to destroy it! Milliamp hours (mah) are nothing more than runtime, they have no effect on voltage. If you are worried about your phone, just be sure that the voltage is still rated at 3.7v. A voltage any higher than 3.7 could (and proabably would) damage your phone.
Putting it another way…
Voltage = Power provided (like the engine in a car)
Milliamps (mah) = How long to sustain that power (like the size of the gas tank in a car)
1000mah or 5000mah the voltage (3.7v) is the same until the battery runs out!
…at the very least, those are the basics!
So is there a battery being sent out?
i just got my G1 today from t-mobile on upgrade… so not used it yet just waiting for it to charge up and what not
So I just bought my G1. So should it have come with one of these battery’s ? Please respond ta lantz937@gmail.com
There is a replacement battery you have to call tmobile G1 department and tell them that you have battery that dies fairly quicly they are going to try and go through some battery traiining with u but u should be able to get an extendend life battery for your phone I talked to them tonight and they are shipping mine out on Monday and I do not have to return my old battery either who ever is having problems with short battery life you should try this
will every1 receive 1 or do u have 2 ask
I called both T-Mobile and HTC. They both said THEY DO NOT carry this battery and ARE NOT offering it to customers.
I found a 2400mAh on a website for $59.95. I will buy one since it is my only options at this point.
The T-Mobile customer rep.(a very nice person) gave me the HTC sales dept. number 1.888.716.3594. The HTC customer rep. (not a nice person at all) was showing his displeasure at my inquiry. I think I am not the only person who has called.
Maybe you should just pull this article because same response as above and a genuine waste of my tme.
Greg Mendel is also, by huge coincidence, the name of the Augustinian monk who is credited with being the father of modern genetics. ,
