T-Mobile have forked out over $1.5 Million USD’s in what is known as “T-Mobile Billion Block,” the most-expansive two-day ad buy in Platform-A history, which will collect 1 billion impressions during November 10th-11th on some of America’s top ranking sites such as TMZ and AOL music.

It is reasoned that the advertisement campaign has aimed for early Christmas present bargains, and that the campaign will reach nearly 85 million internet users.

A press release by the Platform-A was released today, which contained the following;“The innovation behind the T-Mobile Billion Block clearly demonstrates the value marketers place on the combination of reach, impact and innovation that only Platform-A can offer,” said Lynda Clarizio, President of Platform-A. “It also spotlights the role online media will play in the upcoming buying season, with strategic marketers like T-Mobile relying on the near-universal reach of Platform-A to connect with United States consumers in an effective, efficient and engaging way.”

Following up from the announcement, T-Mobile released the following statement about their ad campaign; “The T-Mobile G1 offers a rich, accessible mobile Web experience for the masses, so we want to drive that message to the broadest range of U.S. consumers possible,” said Brett Dennis, director, branded entertainment and media management, T-Mobile USA. “The groundbreaking experience of the T-Mobile G1 is really what motivated us to pursue this exceptional online advertising program.”

Platform-A is an advertisement subsidiary of AOL which utilizes all types of digital media to create a thematic ad campaign over AOL branded websites.

Meebo is a new online networking program which allows for a very simple chat panel to contact your friends with only a single buddy list and a short login/password.

We are excited to provide Meebo users and Android enthusiasts with a new way to connect live with their friends. Enabling access to Meebo on the go means that more and more people will think ‘Meebo’ for open communications whether they are at home, work, school or none of the above!” said Seth Sternberg, founder
and CEO of Meebo. Meebo was founded in September 2005 by Sandy Jen, Elaine Wherry and Seth Sternberg and is a Californian based company.

The Meebo app doesn’t use SMS, and only charges for the data used, it isn’t resource extensive, and displays notifications in the system tray.

To download it, go to http://www.meebo.com/android/

There is a growing market in Australia which the phone could potentially tap, only if any carriers wish to support the G1 that is.

Optus, Telstra and 3 have all commented on the matter.

“We think that Android is an excellent platform and a number of mobile phone manufacturers will develop phones based on it,” said Doug Maloney, general manager, products and services at 3 later. “We’ll be keeping a close eye on it, but we don’t have any information on when these phones will reach Australia.”

Optus’ general manager of content and portals, Mark Mulder, did not directly answer the Android question. He said the telco had seen iPhone users embrace content and data, and was excited about the potential of Android to increase the trend. Optus had a strong relationship with Google and would continue to work with the search giant, the executive said. “Telstra will consider how an Android phone might fit into our range, as we would any new phone in the marketplace,” said Telstra spokesperson Peter Taylor.

Don’t hold your breath for a quick release Australians.

Having bought my G1 today, I decided to take it home and savor the experience of opening it. First up, the box comes with 2 flyers (G1 accessories, and some tips on how to use/make the most out of the G1).

The phone itself is extremely light, which makes it great to carry in your pocket or holding whilst using, so you wont strain your wrist with long calls. I haven’t had a chance to download anything from the market but rather toyed around with the phone itself to get adapted to it.

The first thing that happens once you insert a charged battery into the G1 is that it gives you the notification to insert your sim card. To insert you sim card, you’ll need to take out your memory card, then insert it gently into the brackets.

The background light is very bright an helps contrast text in a dark environment. You could easily use it when trying to open your door, instead of fumbling with the lock.

There aren’t any help/tip notifications on any of the G1′s screens which can make life difficult for the electronically challenged folks, but it cannot be stressed enough that the G1 is a great phone for a beginner and adept alike.

Videos and photos cannot be save on to the G1′s memory, but require a memory card. In short, if there is no
memory card in the G1, then it is useless as a result. 1GB memory card in the G1 is great for a few songs and everyday usage, but I would use anything past 8gb for movie and album playback in the G1.

The folder structure can be a bit awkward but is easily adapted to after some time.

Sometimes the G1 can freeze if too many commands are run, so you really need to be careful with that usage. Treat it just like a computer, i.e if you’re watching a movie, burning a CD, playing a game it will crash.
Same thing with the G1.

Pattern lock is a great concept which easily does away with all the unfortunate problems that a normal phone lock has. I highly recommend pattern lock to be set to display since it can be confusing if you can’t remember/drunk etc.

Email functions are easy enough with no noticeable lag. This is great in a business environment. GMailsupport are skilled in problems with the G1, so if any troubles do occur, you wont be wading in shark infested waters for too long

Overall, everything works perfect for myself and it will make a great investment in your social and business life.
